Say Goodbye to Maintenance Woes with Dr. Maintenance: Your Business’ New Best Friend

Mar 24, 2023

Hi, I’m Raymond Yau, the founder of Dr. Maintenance. In regards to the maintenance work that occurs in business premises, especially in food and beverage outlets, Dr. Maintenance offers a solution platform that helps businesses manage and solve their maintenance issues. We understand the problem, identify its cause, find the right contractor, and handle all the matters that arise during the work and afterwards. Rather than just connecting people, we understand each person’s unique needs and help them find the right people and solutions.

I have been running this company for more than a year. Prior to that, I have been working in the construction and renovation industries for over a decade. I have been an Architect Assistant, an interior designer, a main contractor, a quantity surveyor, and a site supervisor.

Many years ago, I started working on a project that involved commercial F&B restaurants and quickly discovered that the maintenance work never finds anyone willing to do it, and it either doesn’t get done or it gets worse over the years as the business gets older. There is a constant problem with business owners not having the ability to find an adequate contractor to undertake all of these small maintenance jobs, and at the same time the market does not have sufficient manpower or technicians to handle the maintenance work as we are moving into an era when young people do not want to get involved in this field.

The construction and renovations industry is still run using the old decade method and is still living in the IR 2.0 method, which is way too outdated. Now that we are in the era of IR 4.0, I hope that this industry can catch up with the world and can provide a change to the people working in this field with the use of technology.

It is sad to say that this industry is still very old fashioned. The use of data is one of the most powerful tools we have for improving our lives. As a company, we are trying to make the people working in the industry’s daily tasks easier with the use of big data, artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things combined with digital twinning technologies to help us with our work.

My joy is when I start meeting all these big brands who agree with what we are doing and want to collaborate with us on working the system and services. However, there is also a culture of trust in the industry, which can make it difficult sometimes to approach older generations. People tend to stick with their friends who have been working with them for a long time but have not provided good services, and complain about this, and continue with them despite refusing to try another company.

It’s all about how you deal with people, I tell my colleagues. If you can learn and understand how to deal with people, you’ll be able to run your business smoothly and many people will be willing to help you. I’ve been betrayed by many people over the years, but I’m grateful for the lessons they learned. It helped shape me into who I am today. With all this experience and knowledge, I became more careful when dealing with people.

To run a successful business, we must possess a variety of skills. We must recognise our weaknesses and identify people who will be able to compensate for them and gain balance in a team. If I had to choose only one thing to do, I would choose self-reflection. To gain a deeper understanding of ourselves, our businesses, our colleagues, our people, our world, and everything else, we must reflect on everything. This will allow us to discover a variety of whys and hows, which will keep us on the right track.

I owe a lot to Kuazo Inamori for helping me become the right man to do the right thing. His philosophy of “What is right as a human being?” has helped me gain a deeper understanding of life, work, and what it means to be human. Since I started this business, he has been one of my greatest inspirations. His philosophy extends beyond business to how he views life as well.

To me, work is not only about money, it’s also about understanding why people need to work and live. That’s one of the biggest impacts I’ve had in life. Work-life balance is always talked about, but what I truly believe is that there is no such thing. Rather than blending our work and life, we need to make them one. When you love your life and love your work equally, you will get meaning from them both because you will have chemistry between them.

My old self was very egoistic, would not listen to others, and regarded what I did as always right. As the leader of so many people, I have begun to realize that I need to listen more to others, understand their feelings and thoughts, and think from their point of view. Only then will my people support me when I start to think and speak like them.

Our mission at Dr. Maintenance is to establish a strong presence in the market by always being able to provide maintenance services to clients and be the most trusted and reliable partner in the management of their assets.

After 4 years of planning, it’s time to take this project forward.
